A prayer based on Psalm 133
Here's the Psalm (which would have been sung as part of a pilgrimage journey on the way up to worship with all the believers together in Jerusalem from around 3,000 years ago, and was probably written by King David).
1 How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore. The oil in this psalm represents the presence of God's Spirit, and Aaron was one of the chief priests. Mount Hermon was (and still is) a symbol of God's goodness. The 'dew' is the snow that falls on the mountain that then forms clear, fresh water through the dry land of Israel, bringing life and refreshment.
So - we pray this over the JC33 concept:
Father God,
We know that it pleases your heart when Christians pray, serve and work together as one.
As we unite in every way over the next years,
would you be present by your Spirit,
pouring out on us so abundantly,
and would we be like the blessing of fresh, living water,
bringing life and refreshment everywhere we are.
Bless us with your wisdom, your presence and your love for others.
Amen.
Living out the ministry of Jesus together, two millennia apart, in real time.
JC33 is supported by Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Elim, Methodist, Salvation Army, URC, and independent churches across the Isle of Man.
